Out and about in Antigua
The school we’re attending each day is the Christian Spanish Academy. It’s a very nice place, with an inner courtyard and lots of tables for all that one-on-one instruction. I included some pics… including Stacey’s “first day of school” picture.
I realize you couldn’t see it much earlier, due to the clouds, but the city of Antigua is surrounded by mountains. To the south of us is an inactive volcano, Agua. Many days it’s obscured by clouds, but yesterday, after the rains, it was standing out pretty clearly.
Last night was our first night out after dark. The Higher Grounds coffee shop where we were yesterday is run by YWAM Antigua. (YWAM = Youth With A Mission) They do an English language worship service on Thursday nights that some of our housemates were going to, so we went, too. Sorry for the pic not being the best, but I didn’t want to set off a flash in the middle of the service.
Did I mention it gets pretty wet here? Yesterday afternoon, we had to cross a river running down the middle of one of the streets. (Don’t worry, we both made it across.) Speaking of water, there’s a rather interesting fountain in the middle of the city’s Central Park.
This afternoon we leave for our 10-day Caravan tour of Guatemala. We’ll be traveling all over the country (and into Honduras) to see more of the natural beauty of the area and some fascinating Mayan ruins. Hopefully we’ll have internet access at some of the hotels and be able to upload some pictures!
Until next time…
- first day of school
- it's very nice!
- can you find Stacey?
- el volcan agua...
- ...and at night
- YWAM worship
- a river runs through it
- el parque central
- don't look too closely!
