From an internet cafe in Panajachel

Wow. I wish I could upload some pictures from here, but we’re just buying time in an internet cafe to check email and send some quick updates. Forgive me if my punctuation isn’t quite there… it’s an international keyboard, so it’s a bit hard to find certain characters!

This has been an amazing tour so far. We’re on the Guatemala, Tikal, and Copan tour with Caravan, and so far we’ve visited Guatemala City (where we stayed in a really nice hotel), a huge outdoor market in Chichicastenango, a couple of really cool — and really old — churches. Did I say old? I meant really old! Like built-in-1540 old! Really interesting stories to go with them, too… but those will have to wait until I can show you some pictures!

Last night we arrived at Lake Atitlan, a gorgeous lake surrounded by mountains, with two (dormant) volcanoes across the lake. It is truly beautiful. Today we took a boat ride across the lake to the town of Santiago for some shopping and one of those really old churches I just mentioned. It’s hard to describe how beautiful this lake is… so pictures will be coming as soon as we’re able to hook up the laptop to the internet!

Our tour guide, Virginia, is amazing, and we’re really enjoying ourselves. And I guess that’s about all I have to say so far. Oh, I bought a hat. There. Now I’m done.
:)
