Guatemala City to Lake Atitlan

I gave the short version of our tour so far in the last post, so I’ll just share the photos in this one. Hopefully the captions will help a little. And I need to make one correction. There are three, not two, volcanoes across Lake Atitlan from us. Two are right next to each other (Atitlan and Toliman), and the third (San Pedro) is off to the right. You can see all three in the pictures.

Tomorrow we’re in for a 9 hour bus ride across Guatemala and into Honduras, where we’ll stay in Copan for a couple nights and check out some Mayan ruins. After that, we’re coming back into Guatemala to check out more Mayan ruins at Tikal. And then we’re back to Antigua by the weekend (after a 12-hour bus ride on Saturday) and back to class on Monday. I’m telling you all of this now because I really don’t know when I’ll get the chance to check in again here.

Until then, know that we’re enjoying ourselves and our time away. Thanks again to Living Hope for giving us this opportunity!

Oh, and don’t forget to check out Stacey’s blog! She has some different pics, which I think you can see here (with better captions). Maybe.

Great blog & Travel posts!

My wife and I are headed your way!
We are working with a school in Guatemala City and will hold a VBS for a week and do some construction work. Then, we will be staying in Antigua for about 8 days while we wait on another group to join us. Then we are headed to Santa Cruz (north of Guat. City) to work with a school and village there!

I’ve really been enjoying your trip posts! It is hard to find good info on Antigua Gautemala without finding someone who is promoting a place because of their own financial interest! HA!

I’ll find out exactly where we are staying in Antigua tomorrow, but I was hoping you could provide a little bit of “Don’t miss the ____” & “Be sure to eat at the ____” type of advice! If you had 8 days in Antigua, what would you NOT want to miss?

Thanks!

Also, are you going to school there or are you there for work?
We will be in the area July 4th - July 12th.

Thanks, Ray! I’ll be sure to post more about Antigua once we get back there on Saturday!

I just love your pictures and comments. You make it possible to revisit “atmospherics” and lots of little things that I didn’t take note of at the time but are great to have captured.

Thanks again and continue living life to the full!
