Antigua - the end of the Caravan road
Our tour ended back in Antigua, which was kind of nice for us. We got a guided tour of some places we might not have checked out otherwise. We toured a coffee plantation/museum/store and an old convent called Capuchinas. (Actually, I think that’s the name of the order of nuns who lived there.)
It was a fabulous tour, and I heartily recommend it to anyone considering visiting Guatemala. Go to Caravan.com, and you can’t miss it. I don’t know if all their tour directors are as fabulous as Virginia, so if you call, you might want to ask if she’s going to be leading the trip!
- we stayed at a nice hotel
- like being in a little village
- i highly recommend it... but it's a bit of a walk from the city center
- the coffee plantation
- you learn about the whole process, from seed to coffee cup
- and then you get to sample the coffee and buy some beans
- we'd never seen La Merced with cars in front of it!
- but it's a sunday, and lots of people are in for worship
- the city really comes alive on sundays!
- this is the capuchinas convent
- really cool place
- ruins... but nice ones
- just a little re-creation
- then we went upstairs
- no railings!
- you can see el Cerro de la Cruz from here
- these are the rooms for the novitiates
- young women seeing if they can hack it as nuns
- the view from their choir loft, in the back of the old sanctuary
- stacey wants to sing!
- virginia told us all about it
- lots of interesting architectural details
- uh... like that one
- see the little girl escaping? she couldn't hack it
- we visited "the refrigerator room"
- nice and cool down there!
- getting too artsy with these photos!
- checking out the artwork
- artsy jesus
- artsy angel
- all in all, a cool place to visit
- our last ride on the bus!
- and a farewell surprise for virginia!
