More from our Pacaya volcano climb
OK, here are some more pics from our Pacaya volcano climb on Saturday. (Don’t miss the pics and video in my last post!) It was a lot of fun. We didn’t go all the way up to the peak/cone… but I don’t think anyone is doing that anymore. It’s a wee bit too active right now.
We had the choice of morning or afternoon climbs. The morning one meant leaving our house at 6:00 am and getting back around 1:00 pm. The evening one leaves at 2:00 pm and gets back around 9:00. The van ride there took around 2 hours, with the last 20 minutes or so on a muddy road up the side of the volcano. Don’t go if you get motion sick! We’d heard that it’s beautiful at night, because you can see the lava better and even see the sun setting across the Pacific… but it rains every night right now, and we really didn’t want to be hiking in the wet darkness. So we missed out on some views due to clouds, but we didn’t get rained on!
For anyone thinking of going, we paid $10/person for transportation (organized through our language school) and then Q40/person for admission. Q40 = less than $6 right now, so the whole trip only cost us around $42. Oh yeah, we paid Q5 each for the walking sticks, so maybe $44.
